We provide complete and thorough reviews on Critical Incident events with the term “Critical Incident” being defined as the following:
Police and Corrections Officer Use of Force events
- On the street and/or in the jail
- Bailiffs and Court Marshals in the Court House as well as walking inmates and persons in-custody to and from the Jail/Court House
- Federal Agents
- Hospital Staff/Security/Nurses/Doctors that have combative patients
- Fire/Paramedics that use force on a patient
- any entity that is facing litigation as a result of their employee’s actions towards/against a patron
Vehicle Pursuits
- Police in pursuit of a suspect whether or not a vehicle collision occurs as a result of the pursuit
- Police or private investigators following a suspect whilst undercover in an unmarked vehicle and a collision occurs
- Fire/Paramedics driving lights and sirens to a call for service (medical emergency, citizen assist, and/or fire)
- A transport of subjects/prisoners/inmates in a vehicle and a collision occurs whether or not those persons in-custody suffer injuries or not
In Custody Deaths
- An event where a person(s) dies while in the care and custody of a Law Enforcement Employee
- Subject is in handcuffs in the back of a Police Vehicle and dies
- Subject is in court while remanded (in-custody and actively serving time after being arrested) and dies while in the courtroom
- Subject dies while in his/her jail cell
- Suicide, medical episode, during a Use of Force event with a Law Enforcement Officer
- Dies as a result of a fight with another inmate
- We’d be looking at how/why it happened and what law enforcement could have done to prevent it and the response they took concerning life-saving measures
- A subject dying in the hands of the Fire Department/EMS would have to be an event that we deem necessary of our skillset. It’s not uncommon for a person to pass away while being treated by Fire/EMS, so there would have to be an allegation of foul play. This way we’d start from before the event took place and conclude out investigation well after the event itself concluded.
Officer Involved Shooting
- An officer/EP professional/security guard/military personnel and/or any other employee or person employed by an entity that is seeking a fact-finding investigation from CIE.
- An OIS doesn’t have to be just a firearm, but it could also consist of an agent of any of those employers discharging their a less than lethal option causing the death of the subject (40mm launcher, 37mm launcher, bean bag round fired from a shotgun, and/or any other type of tool used to discharge a projectile at a subject with the end result of the subject succumbing to the injury suffered from the launched projectile).
Officer Present Death
- A subject commits suicide whilst in the presence of Law Enforcement.
- Example would be an open-air barricade situation of a subject threatening suicide while holding a gun to their head. Failed attempts to get the subject to drop the gun and surrender would lead to that subject pulling the trigger and committing suicide.
- The same of a subject jumping from a tall structure/object and succumbing to injuries after failed attempts by Law Enforcement and/or Fire personnel trying to talk the subject down from jumping.
